Blue Moon

An orange slice on the rim, a hazy orange glow in the glass: Blue Moon Belgian White is America's gateway wheat beer, the one that taught millions of lager drinkers that beer could taste of citrus and spice.

It was born in 1995 in one of the least likely brewery locations anywhere — the SandLot, a tiny brewery inside Coors Field, home of baseball's Colorado Rockies. Brewmaster Keith Villa, armed with a brewing doctorate earned in Belgium, created it there under the gloriously ballpark name 'Bellyslide Belgian White' before it went national as Blue Moon. The orange garnish was a deliberate cue that this beer tasted of citrus, and the trick worked so well it became a ritual.

Molson Coors — the world's fifth-biggest brewer, at 74.55 million hectoliters in 2025 — still owns it, and purists have argued for years about whether a macro-brewed wheat beer counts as craft. Meanwhile, Blue Moon has walked more people from pale lager to coriander and orange peel than almost any beer alive.

Cloudy orange-gold under a fluffy white head, and softer than it looks: creamy wheat, a bright orange-peel citrus lift, and warm coriander spice underneath, with barely any bitterness. The orange slice on the rim is optional flavor and mandatory theater. Smooth, gently sweet, and dangerously easy.
