Budweiser

Budweiser is the American-style pale lager that made "the King of Beers" feel less like a slogan and more like a census result: Kantar ranks it the world's No. 2 beer brand in 2026, Brand Finance prices the trademark at $11.9 billion, and the red label pours in bars from St. Louis to Shanghai.

Adolphus Busch and his friend Carl Conrad launched it in St. Louis in 1876, naming the lager in the Bohemian fashion after the Czech brewing town of Budweis. The homage became a century-long legal headache: the Czech brewery Budvar has contested the name ever since, which is why in much of Europe the American original is sold simply as "Bud."

Today it is the flagship of AB InBev, the Leuven-based giant whose breweries poured 484 million hectoliters in 2025 — and its growth story is increasingly written abroad. In China, Brazil, and the UK, the beer born as America's everyman lager now sells as an American premium.

Pours pale gold with a fizzy white head that settles fast. The rice in the grain bill keeps it featherweight: faint green apple and grainy sweetness up front, a whisper of hop bitterness, then a clean, dry snap of a finish. Beechwood aging is more ritual than flavor, but the result is genuinely built for drinking cold and fast.
