The Bamberg beer guide
Bamberg is beer pilgrimage at walking pace: a UNESCO-listed old town where roughly ten breweries still malt, smoke, and pour within a couple of kilometres of each other. This is the world capital of rauchbier — smoked beer — and Schlenkerla’s bacon-dark pours are only the loudest voice in a deep Franconian chorus.
Come for the smoke, stay for the region: Bamberg sits at the heart of the densest brewery landscape on earth, and the kellerbier gardens of the surrounding villages are the day trips beer travelers dream about.
