Mahr's Bräu

Beer travelers walk out to the Wunderburg quarter for a single letter: order 'a U' and you get Mahr's ungespundet Kellerbier, an unbunged, amber, 5.2% beer that many drinkers rank among the best lagers made anywhere. The brewery has stood here since 1670 and has been family-owned since 1895, and the Wirtshaus attached to it still feels like a neighborhood living room rather than an attraction. It is a 15-to-20-minute walk from the old town — exactly far enough to keep it local.
