The Qingdao beer guide
Qingdao is China’s beer capital by birthright: German colonists founded the Tsingtao brewery here in 1903, and the city never stopped drinking. The brewery museum on Dengzhou Road’s “beer street” tells the story; the street itself pours the freshest Tsingtao you will ever taste — sometimes handed to you in a plastic bag.
Come in high summer for the Qingdao International Beer Festival, Asia’s largest — a seaside Oktoberfest with Chinese characteristics — and drink the raw, unpasteurized yuanjiang that never leaves the city.
