Königlicher Hirschgarten

Around 7,000 self-service seats make the Hirschgarten, by its own plausible count, the largest traditional beer garden anywhere, and there has been an inn on this spot in the former royal hunting park since 1791. Scale is the point: on a warm evening it becomes a small, cheerful city of benches on the way out to Nymphenburg Palace. Do as locals do in the self-service area — bring your own picnic, buy the beer, and stay a while. Open daily 11am to midnight, kitchen until 10pm.
