Hofbräuhaus München

Last verified via official website

Why go

Duke Wilhelm V founded the Hofbräuhaus in 1589 as the Bavarian court's own brewery, King Ludwig I opened it to the public in 1828, and it has been the template for the Bavarian beer hall ever since. Yes, it is full of tourists — go anyway, ideally on a weekday before noon, when you can claim a bench in the ground-floor Schwemme and drink a Maß of Hofbräu where Munich has been drinking it for two centuries. The hall runs daily from 11am to midnight, with the kitchen closing at 10pm.
