Beer Hall Lion Ginza 7-chome

Last verified via official website

Why go

Japan's oldest surviving beer hall has poured in this same room since 1934, and the interior — glass-mosaic murals included — is largely original; the building is a registered Tangible Cultural Property. Come for draft Sapporo and beer-hall classics under the vaulted ceiling rather than variety. The ground-floor hall is walk-in only, so go early on weekend evenings or expect a wait.
